Self-Care Routine During Social Distancing

I'm still in disbelief about how much my life has changed in the past two weeks. The uncertainty of the Coronavirus outbreak has me living on the edge of sanity! Having to re-adjust our everyday life has been extremely stressful for my family and I. How are you holding up? Truthfully, I'm having a hard time describing exactly how I'm feeling. So many different emotions, all at once, has been tough. At this moment, all I know is that I need to maintain a healthy mind so I can stay strong for my family!
Social distancing and staying at home for the past two weeks have been extremely tough and overwhelming! I've been so focused on taking care of my family that I was starting to neglect taking care of myself. If I'm feeling mentally drained, I can't provide emotional support for my husband and kids! I needed to find a balance immediately between taking care of my family and myself, and that's how I created a daily self-care routine.

Every morning, I go for a thirty-minute walk with Little Penny, and we take the dogs with us. My daily walk sets my mood for my entire day. I have noticed that when I don't start my day with me walking first thing in the morning, I feel unmotivated and stressed the rest of my day.

Little Penny takes her nap every day between 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM sometimes longer, and I utilize this time for self-care only. Every day I do something different, so my routine doesn't become boring.

Some days I like to catch up on any TV shows that I'm currently watching or watch re-runs of my favorite shows and movies. Romantic Comedies are usually my go too.

Once a week I enjoy a mini spa day at home. My mini-spa session consists of a face mask. I play peaceful sounds of nature, I grab a magazine, and I pour myself a glass of wine.

Other days I like to have the house nice and quiet because that's how I enjoy reading my books.

A few years ago, I started a succulent garden, and it's been very therapeutic for me. I don't have a green thumb, but thankfully succulents are very low maintenance. My garden, for me, is part of my self-care routine.

I recently purchased a bike, and this is by far, my favorite thing to do! As a child growing up in Honduras, riding bikes was all I did. So, it brings back some great memories; it also allows me to forget about everything that is currently going on. On my bike ride, I put my headphones on, and nothing else exists.

Soaking up some vitamin D in my backyard is like heaven on earth for me. I take the baby monitor outside, play music, grab my water, and relax!

I had to take a moment and realize the importance of taking care of myself, and I want to tell you that self-care is not selfish! It is something that we all need to be happy and stress-free.

Please, remember that at this time, staying home is the best way to stay safe!

I am looking forward to our next chat!
